Both park districts offer year-round activities including lessons in crafts, arts and sports. Residents may sign up for camps, picnics, dances and contests. Due to Ciceros commitment to its youth, organizations, such as Little League, have an outstanding reputation. The park districts also offer other team activities as basketball, volleyball, softball, bowling and floor hockey. The Hawthorne Park District hosts the Little League games, which are played on well-maintained fields. Family and friends can follow the score on the electronic scoreboards and enjoy a treat from the concession stands. Many fields are equipped with lights for night games.
Both districts continually renovate their parks, playgrounds and pools. In addition, they offer four preschools with bilingual teachers. Several private facilities offer Cicero folks a chance to enjoy a game of pool or bowling. Town Hall Bowl takes it one step further with cosmic (laser) bowling. Other residents may prefer a dance or fitness class. There are plenty of activities to choose from, including simply sitting back and enjoying a movie. Cicero provides several cinema options, including a drive-in theater, and more than a handful of video rental stores.
Seniors may make use of one of the most comprehensive senior centers in Illinois, the Berwyn-Cicero Council on Aging (BCCOA), which is located on Cermak Road. Depending on what the need is, seniors can receive hot lunches with delivery to the homebound; recreational, educational and counseling services; health screening and transportation. Residents can take advantage of the many services including employment and volunteer opportunities, senior companions, homemaking, legal and finance help. Cicero residents can count on countless recreational choices for people of all ages. There is always an occasion and place for community members to gather and share some time together. Businesses, civic clubs, individual volunteers and government all cooperate to provide an abundance of fun. |
